A design-build studio's website, as considered as its houses.
A quiet, premium website for an architect-led design-build studio, made for clients who care about proportion, materials and a house's history.
Concept site. The company is fictional and the photos are stock.

Who it’s for
For the studio whose clients care about proportion, materials and the house's history as much as the price.
A good fit for
Design-build studios, historic restoration and high-end renovation.
The company in the concept
Hemlock & Slate is a made-up, architect-led design-build studio in Rhinebeck, NY: historic restoration, whole-home renovation, additions, kitchens, baths and a few custom homes a year.
Built to get the call.
Everything on the site leads a homeowner to one of two things: booking a free consultation, or calling.
- 1
A consultation button everywhere
In the header on every page, and again in the first screen.
- 2
Call or book from a phone
A bar at the bottom of the screen with Call and Free consultation. It steps aside while the form is on screen.
- 3
Booking in three steps
Pick a date and time, add a few details, see it confirmed.
- 4
Help that waits to be asked
On desktop, a Contact button in the corner opens a short panel with a scheduler. It never pops open by itself.
- 5
The owner, by name
A strip with the person who'll run the job, and a button to talk to them. People hire people.
- 6
The form where it's needed
At the foot of the homepage, with the phone number and hours beside it.
In the concept the form and booking show a preview and send nothing. Yours goes to your email or your CRM.

On a phone, with Call and Free consultation always in reach
Design decisions, and why.
Each one is there for a business reason. The full story is on our blog.
- 1
Sketch to built
Drag between a pencil drawing and the finished house. It shows the design-build idea, one team that draws it and builds it, without a paragraph explaining it.

Sketch to built, dragged halfway - 2
A page for every service
Each with its own photos, scope, questions and consultation button. Someone looking for a kitchen lands on the kitchen page, not the homepage.

Services as photo cards - 3
The work, up front
Recent projects on the homepage, each with its own story page. Big jobs go to whoever looks most trustworthy before the first call.

Recent projects, each with its own page - 4
A page for every town
Each written for that town: its houses, what's common there, how far it is from the office. Homeowners search for a remodeler near their town, and these are the pages that answer.

The service area, with a page for each town - 5
Built for phones first
A compact header with call and menu buttons, a menu with the services folded in, and buttons sized for thumbs.

- 6
A map that loads when it's wanted
The service area shows a picture of the map with the radius drawn on it. The live Google map, heavy and full of cookies, loads only when someone clicks it.
- 7
Colors checked for reading
Every brand color is checked against the accessibility standard for contrast (WCAG AA). Where one is too light for small text, the site uses a deeper shade of it for text and keeps the true color for buttons and large type.
Fast, easy to use, and built right.
PageSpeed Insights is Google's free test of how a page works for the people who visit it. Every score is out of 100, and 90 or more counts as good.
- 95 out of 100
Speed on phones
Opens quickly on the phone a homeowner searches from, so they stay instead of going back to Google.
- 100 out of 100
Speed on computers
Just as quick for the homeowner planning a project at their desk.
- 100 out of 100
Accessibility
Easy for everyone to read and use, including people with poor eyesight and people who use a screen reader.
- 100 out of 100
Best practices
Secure and built to current web standards, with nothing broken behind the scenes.
Google looks at how fast and easy to use a page is when it ranks results, and people leave a page that's slow to open. A fast site is seen by more homeowners, and more of them stay long enough to call.

Headings: Fraunces
Well drawn. Well built.
Body text: Instrument Sans
Historic restoration, renovations, additions and a few new houses a year across the mid-Hudson Valley, designed and built by one small studio since 2011.
Split hero
The headline on an evergreen panel beside the photos, the word "built" in clay italic.
Services as photo cards
Six cards in a grid, each a way into its own page.
Homes only
No commercial section: the studio's work is houses.
Made yours.
Think of it as a model home: nobody lives in it, it shows how we build, and you choose the finishes. It costs less than a site from scratch because the design and the build are done.
Your words
Every headline, service and town page written for your business, your area and the jobs you want more of.
Your brand
Your logo, colors and fonts. Any brand color is checked for readability and given a darker shade for small text where it needs one.
Your photos
Your own projects in place of the stock photos, sized so the site stays fast.
Your layout
A centered or split hero, services as a list or as photo cards, and the homepage sections in the order that suits you.
Your pages
Only the pages you need. A small crew might start with four services and three towns; a bigger firm can have dozens.
Your extras
Online booking, a project gallery, financing, a careers page, or a feature that's yours alone.
The Starter site

Questions.
What would a site like this cost?
The Starter is from $1,500: the homepage, About, Contact, up to four service pages and three town pages, in your brand, with copy written for you. Each extra page is $100. You get a fixed price after a short call, before any work starts.
Why does it cost less than a custom site?
The design, the build and the speed work are done. Your money goes into making it yours: your words, your photos, your brand and the pages you need.
Will it look like everyone else's?
No. The two styles here share the same code and look nothing alike. And we won't build the same design for a direct competitor in your area.
Can I edit it myself?
Yes, if you'd like to. We can add a content editor (Sanity or Payload) so you can change pages, projects and posts yourself. Or we make the changes for you under a Care plan.
How long does it take?
About two weeks for the Starter, once we have your photos and the details of your services and towns.
Are these real companies?
No. Ridgeline Builders and Hemlock & Slate are made up, and so are their people, reviews and project counts. The photos are stock. The design, the build and the speed are real, and you can open either site to try it.
Same site, another style.
Ridgeline Builders runs on the same code as Hemlock & Slate. Different content, colors, fonts and a few layout choices make it a different business.
Want one like it for your business?
A few lines is plenty. You’ll hear back from a real person, not a sales team.
What happens next
- 1You hear back within one business dayA real reply, usually with a question or two.
- 2A free look at your siteWhat's costing you customers, and what we'd fix first.
- 3A clear quote, if you want oneWhat it costs, how it's billed and a timeline. No pressure to say yes.
